Anxiety While Driving

 

 

Experiencing anxiety or fear of driving is not that uncommon.  That’s not so surprising when you consider all the very real dangers that exist while behind the wheel.  Traffic jams, car wrecks, even road rage incidents, are all things that happen all too frequently so it’s no wonder that so many get worried when getting behind the wheel. 

Unfortunately, sometimes that anxiety can lead to avoidance, says the folks at www.drivingfear.com.  When you avoid the thing that makes you scared, it tends to give it even more power of you and the fear has a tendency to grow.  Once you begin avoiding anything and allowing it to affect your entire life, it becomes a phobia that gets harder and harder to deal with as time goes on.

Still, many people will think that’s it is something they can live with.  After all, there are alternatives to driving like public transportation or even walking.  There are many ways to avoid needing to drive if you really don’t want to and many reason, what’s the harm?  Well, allowing your fear of driving to dictate what you do and don’t do affects your life in several ways.  You may want to look at The Driving Fear Program.

Not driving will limit your social life, as you won’t be able to get to see some people or at least not as often.  This can have an effect on your relationships with family members, as well.  Not driving could also hurt your career, even if your job doesn’t involve driving on a regular basis.  What if your boss wants to send you to a meeting?  Are you really going to tell him no?
